In response to division feedback, we have worked with DevOps to implement tower shapes on the Webeye. However the use of these shapes is not to be used excessively, or for no reason at all. Therefore the below gives details on our policy for the use of this facility.
Shapes for tower positions should only be used where the tower controller is responsible for the provision of the approach function at that aerodrome, or when the area controlled by the tower is considerably larger than the size of the standard red circle depicted on Webeye. Tower shapes should not be implemented for AFIS or AGCS positions where an ATS Service outside of controlled airspace is the only air traffic service provided to airborne traffic.
Deviations from this rule can be considered on a case by case basis by HQ ATC Operations and should be submitted via email to atcdata@ivao.aero with a detailed rationale for why you require the implementation of a tower shape.
