Dear IVAO Pilots,
Please find below your routes for the various departure and arrival aerodromes. As you are flying across the North Atlantic, you should be filing a North Atlantic Track which are included in the routes below. Due to traffic flow management, if you file a route different to the one below, you risk being delayed at your entry point. You may use any valid routing either side of the Atlantic, unless published by the respetive Division, but you must aim to start and end your Atlantic crossing using the routes below. This is to ensure that everybody has a safe and separated crossing. Please ensure that you request your highest available flight level to ensure maximum flexibility. Once clearance for a flight level, pilots should not expect this to be increased whilst crossing the North Atlantic, unless for separation reasons.
Pilot procedures can be found here: Pilot Procedures
Pilots will need to request Oceanic clearance at least 30 minutes before their entry point. Please ensure you have obtained your Oceanic clearance well in advance otherwise your crossing may be delayed.

Throughout your Oceanic crossing, you will have contact with at least three controllers, all whom have different responsibilites and a short outline is contained in the table below. PLEASE NOTE: through the use of traffic flow management, these responsibilites may change at any time and care should always be taken to listen to the frequency that you are being given - if you are unsure, please ask the controller to repeat the frequency.
ATC | Responsibilities |
---|---|
EGGX_OC_CTR | This controller is responsible for providing Oceanic clearances to aircraft. Pilots should contact this controller between 30 and 90 minutes before their entry point to request clearance via voice or text. |
EGGX_x_CTR | This controller is responsible for providing all aircraft flying on a North Atlantic Track or Random Routing in the Shanwick FIR with a procedural service. Pilots should expect to contact this controller to for their first position report. |
CZQX_x_CTR | This controller is responsible for providing all aircraft flying on a North Atlantic Track or Random Routing in the Gander Oceanic FIR with a procedural service. Pilots should expect to contact this controller to for their position report at 30°W longitude. |
CDQX_CTR | This controller is responsible for providing radar service over gander domestic airspace. You will be contacting him once you exit the oceanic airspace. |
As controllers, we want to make sure that you have a great crossing and one way we can do this is by making your Oceanic clearance easy to obtain. Below you will find some example phraseology of how you should obtain your Oceanic clearance via voice:
Pilot: "Shanwick Radio, (Callsign) with request."
ATC: "(Callsign), Shanwick. Hello, pass your message."
Pilot: "(Callsign) request clearance to Montreal via Track E, Flight Level 380, Mach .85. Estimating PIKIL at 1125z. TMI 097."
ATC: "(Callsign), cleared to Montreal via Track E, Flight Level 380, Mach .85."
Pilot: "Cleared to Montreal, Track E, FL380, Mach .85, (Callsign)"
ATC: "(Callsign), readback correct, make next position report at PIKIL with Shanwick on (freqeuncy). Return to previous frequency approved"
Please use the Pilot Datalink tool located here for automated position reporting, if you have issues you can revert to voice.
Position reports must be passed to the controller at every oceanic waypoint you pass (highlighted in bold in the routes.
We do hope that you have a very enjoyable event and we look forward to controlling you over the North Atlantic.
