Kerry airport is not approved for low visibility procedures and therefore does not operate in low visibility conditions.
Where the reported conditions are below the operational minima of RVR ≤550M or height of cloud ≤200ft, Aircraft arrival and departure operations shall be suspended.
Kerry QFE = Kerry QNH - 4 hPa
5000ft
Determined by ATC. A conversion table can be found within the XU Quickview.
The most in to wind runway should be used with a tailwind component less than 5 knots.
The following ICAO Phraseology is used for clearances.
“[Callsign], Kerry Ground, [ATIS code], Cleared to [Destination], Departure SID, [Runway], Initial climb [altitude], Squawk [SSR Code]”
Departing aircraft should state:
Standard Instrument Departures are split into Category A/B and C/D.
CPDLC/ Datalink Clearances are not in use at Kerry.
The following ICAO Phraseology is used for Taxiway clearances.
”[Aircraft Callsign], taxi via A, Hold short of Runway 08”

Departures and should be instructed to back track and line up on the Runway in use. Care should be taken to not block taxiway A due to the limited space to manoeuvre aircraft.
Separation between departing aircraft is applied so that after one aircraft takes off, the next aircraft does not take-off with less than the number of minutes needed. There are 2 departure separation methods in use at Kerry: Wake Turbulence and Route separation. When calculating the correct departure separation, the highest of the 2 values is the one to use.
ICAO Wake Turbulence Separation Minima (Nautical Miles).
Leader / Follower | Super Heavy | Heavy | Medium | Light |

Super Heavy | - | 6 | 7 | 8 |
Heavy | - | 4 | 5 | 6 |
Medium | - | - | - | 5 |
Light | - | - | - | - |
A route seperation of 2 minutes applies to all departures.
All departures should be transferred to EISN LS CTR (Shannon ACC Low) when airborne before passing altitude 2000ft.
If Shannon ACC Low is offline, Departures should be transferred EISN_CTR (Shannon ACC ALL).
If all of the above are offline, departures should be released to UNICOM.
Shannon Control will transfer control of Kerry Inbounds at 4 miles. Transfer of communication can occur as soon as the inbound aircraft is established on the approach. Shannon control will terminate their radar service and instruct the aircraft to contact Kerry tower.
Due to the time taken for aircraft to backtrack and vacate the Runway, Shannon Control will aim to separate arrivals by 10nm or greater.

Missed approaches should be coordinated with Shannon Control. If Shannon control is offline, the aircraft should be instructed to follow the missed approach procedure.
Kerry airport does not have an Approach position. Approach control services are provided by Shannon Control.
The Kerry CTR is Class C Controlled Airspace from Surface - 5000ft.
Use | Code |
---|---|
VFR (Including circuits) | 7000 |
VFR Circuits are flown to the north of Kerry due to high terrain to the south.
Circuits are flown at 1500ft QNH or 1000ft QFE.
All VFR traffic should route via Visual Reference Points VRP’s not above altitude 1500ft QNH.
The following VRP’s are established for Kerry:
Flight Information Services outside of the Kerry CTR are provided by Shannon Information (Shannon Control). In the absence of Shannon control, Kerry Tower may provide Flight information services subject to controller workload.
Kerry Tower does not have the abillity to identify aircraft under a FIS using a discrete squawk code as Kerry airport is not equipped with a Radar.
