Events are often the busiest time on IVAO for air traffic control and for pilots. There's a few different types of events that may happen on the network, but the ones that really matter for us are:
When an event is released by the IVAO United Kingdom and Ireland divisional events department to members through our website, forum and Discord server we will include a link for members to bid (or request) an ATC position for the event.
You can see upcoming events on our website.
Each event will have a list of ATC positions required, and if you have the valid rating you can bid on the position you would like to control. Bidding does not guarantee that you will be able to control for the event on that position, but the ATC Operations Department will do their best to fit you in for the event.
For Events and inline with the IVAO Rules & Regulations A.3.2.1, the IVAO ATC Service Centre is not used for bookings unless a position has been allocated by the ATC Operations Department. All bookings made that fall over an Event are automatically cancelled.
There are lots of things that we consider when we choose ATC for events. In order of most important consideration to last, we look at:
We tell our members on our divisional Discord server at least seven (7) days before the event start date and time, unless exceptional circumstances mean it has to be later.
Members who have been selected should:
Members who have not been selected will not be informed, but please don't be disheartened - there's always next time and we really do try to vary the members who are able to control for our events!
Members who are connected to an ATC Position that is being used for an event are to vacate the position 5 minutes before the start of the Event to allow the assigned member to take over the position.
If you know you are unable to make your booking please inform a member of staff as soon as possible, using the ticket system on Discord. This will allow us to give someone else the opportunity to control for the event.
If you fail to turn up this may count against you for future event ATC bids.
