Guidance for Pilots from outside the XU Division
Unrestricted Activities
Pilots from outside of XU are welcome in our airspace to fly Special Operations traffic as General Air traffic (GAT) inline with SO HQ Rules and Regulations. This means flights from Point A to Point B such as Eindhoven to RAF Brize Norton. There is however one exception to this at the time of writing (18/10/2022), any pilot is welcome to conduct low level training with in Low Flying Area 7 (LFA7) which covers Wales during day time hours only. The full area in which the activity can be conducted can be found on the chart below. All flights within this area must start from and end at RAF Valley (EGOV) following all XU specific procedures and phraseology as provided on this wiki. Pilots must remain Low Level at all times (uncontrolled). This is defined as no higher than 2000ft AGL. This excludes in the event of a inflight emergency, for traffic coordination purposes into and out of Valley and if approved by ATC. If the aircraft is being controlled by ATC, then the majority of the flight must be under taken low level with short transits to and from Valley higher than 2000ft AGL being acceptable.
