Real Flight Event and Real Flight Operation Events, known as RFE and RFO respectively, are special events that faithfully pursue the "as real as it gets" motto.
The specialty of these events rely exactly in the offer of a slot booking system and following real schedules based on the current time and/or season for real-life operations.
Real Flight Events are special events within the IVAO Community, in which the actual, real-life schedule for one or more specific airports is duly followed throughout the event date and timeframe.
This Event Type takes into account all kinds of details: event time, season, aircraft types, departure and arrival gates. Therefore, pilots are required to fly as real as possible and to follow the published schedule. This is possible through a slot booking system. Thus, in order to participate at an RFE a previously booked slot is required.
Real Flight Events do not integrate private slots, out-of-season special flights, charter flights of any nature, ficticious Virtual Airlines flights and real flights out of the event timeframe (date and starting/ending hours).
To participate in an RFE, read the event details published at the IVAO Events Forum board, then book your flight slot, prepare your flight plan and aircraft, make sure to comply with your assigned slot time and most importantly: enjoy the event!
You may also choose to join the RFE as an Air Traffic Controller and provide services to the participant pilots: pay attention to the instructions present at the event announcement, coordinate with fellow ATCs, assign arrivals/departures, and have lots of fun!
Real Flight Operations Events are yet another special events within the IVAO Community. This Event Type closely resembles the RFE, but with some fundamental differences.
A Real Flight Operations Event takes into account the number of operations per hour that a specific airport has during a certain timeframe of a certain day (slots/hour, for example: Guarulhos - SBGR had a peak of 57 slots per hour in 2020).
Based on the number of operations per hour, the hosting division will choose which flights will be available for booking. This includes, but are not limited to: real flights, special (seasonal) flights, charter flights, empty private slots, Virtual Airlines flights, vintage/historical flights, and many more!
To participate in an RFO, read the event details published at the IVAO Events Forum board, then book your flight slot, prepare your flight plan and aircraft, make sure to comply with your assigned slot time and most importantly: enjoy the event!
You may also choose to join the RFE as an Air Traffic Controller and provide services to the participant pilots: pay attention to the instructions present at the event announcement, coordinate with fellow ATCs, assign arrivals/departures, and have lots of fun!
A Mega Slot Event is a subtype of the RFO Event. In this subtype of event, a division provides a certain number of empty slots and members can fill in the flight details, such as the departure and arrival airports, type of aircraft, and callsign.
Generally, the hosting division will offer the same amount of slots per hour as if the event was an RFO Event – but this time the slots will be assigned according to the gate and departure/arrival time. Other details such as destination/departure airport, aircraft type, and callsign will be filled by the pilot.
The same rules of RFEs and RFOs are applied to the MSE: pilots are required to book a flight and perform it according to the booked slot.
Participation in a MSE is the same as an RFE or RFO: have fun!
All RFEs, RFOs, and MSEs events are announced at the IVAO Website and via the IVAO Events forum board.
Some RFEs, RFOs, and MSEs integrate the IVAO Events Support Award, learn more here.
