Dear Divisional Events Departments & Divisional Headquarters,
The IVAO Events Department, according to current Events Regulations, has decided to publish the
requirements for organising a Memorial Event in the IVAO network. These guidelines have been
written with four principles in mind, they are:
In memory of a member of the IVAO Community, regardless of death circumstances.
In celebration of the life of a member of the IVAO Community, especially regarding achievements and
contributions to IVAO.
In memory of aviation tragedies that had a cultural significance, either globally or locally, if it is well justified.
In memory of any political leaders, military commanders, terrorists, or extremists.
In memory of an aviation tragedy that was part of a terrorist attack.
In memory of an aviation tragedy that resulted from a deliberate action from the pilots/crew.
Note: in cases where an IVAO member has, unfortunately, passed away in the circumstances described in the third panel, the “regardless of death circumstances” must come into effect. In these cases, the event must focus on the life, achievements, and contributions of the IVAO member rather than the aviation tragedy itself.
When organising a Memorial Event that falls under the “Encouraged” panel (Color Green), the event must focus on the life, achievements, and contributions of the member that has passed away. These events must describe how these contributions have improved IVAO. A Memorial Event on this category may also be organised as a farewell for a long-term staff member that has significantly contributed to IVAO, celebrating their life and achievements.
When organising a Memorial Event that falls under the “Discouraged” column (Color Yellow), the event must focus on the learnings and changes aviation got through after the aviation tragedy – showing how well-developed aviation has become to avoid technical and human errors. Therefore, the event must not simply replicate the original tragedy. These events must be planned carefully and respectfully.
Those events falling under "Under no circumstances" (Color Red), will not be approved and disconnections/suspensions might apply to those users or staff who are participating or have participated on them.
The event promotion must be made respectfully and carefully, avoid spamming the event. The event banner must display a black ribbon. The event title must contain the “Memorial Event” expression.
Example: [16 OCT | 12z – 16z] [XX] Memorial Event – Graeme Wright Memorial Flight
➢ Good examples of a Memorial Event include, but are not limited to:
➢ Graeme Wright Memorial Flight
