This page describes the most important points to know about Beijing Capital International Airport and Beijing Daxing International Airport , in preparation for the Discover Beijing event.
Those informations are for virtual flight simulation only, and are not supposed in any way to be used in real aviation operations.
¶ 0. Introduction
For this event, like all others, it is of primary importance to have all charts on board at the time of the event, and updated AIRAC cycle (cycle 2201)

¶ 1. ZBPE - Beijing FIR
Beijing is covered by a single FIR, ZBPE - Beijing.
It uses metric units (heights and altitudes in meters, speed in knots).
QNH information is in hPa.
Airspace is RVSM from 8100m (FL291) to 12500m (FL411) included.
ATC will issue Flight Level clearance in METERS, Pilot shall fly using Flight Levels in FEET.
IFR flight should respect semi-circular rule:
Airspeed is limited at 280 KIAS within Beijing TMA.
Transition Altitude is set at FL118, and Transition Level is set by ATC
Pilots expect a service in English and Chinese.
¶ 2. ZBAA - Beijing Capital International Airport
¶ 2.1 General information
Beijing Capital International Airport (IATA: PEK, ICAO: ZBAA) is one of the two main international airports serving in Beijing, China. It is located 32 km (20 mi) northeast of Beijing's city center, in an exclave of Chaoyang District and the surroundings of that exclave in suburban Shunyi District. The airport's IATA Airport code, PEK, is based on the city's former romanized name, Peking.
¶ 2.2 Communication Frequencies
Check the applicable ATIS before connecting to any frequency. During events most frequencies are active, but not all. Check NOTAM and event information during your flight planning.
¶ 2.3 Ground, parking and taxi informations
The airport has three terminals:
- Terminal 1 serves the domestic routes of Hainan Airlines and its subsidiaries (while its international, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan flights operate from Terminal 2).
- Terminal 2 serves SkyTeam (excluding China Airlines, which uses Terminal 3), Oneworld member SriLankan Airlines, and also other domestic and international flights.
- Terminal 3, the newest terminal, serves Air China, Star Alliance, Oneworld members (excluding SriLankan Airlines, which uses Terminal 2), plus SkyTeam member China Airlines, and some other domestic and international flights that do not operate from either Terminals 1 or 2.
¶ 2.4 Runway information
Beijing Capital International Airport operates with three long parallel runways.
Two of them are named 18L/36R, 18R/36L, and the third one is the 01/19. Even this, please note that heading is the same for all the runways, i.e. 359 degrees.

¶ 3. ZBAD - Beijing Daxing International Airport
¶ 3.1 General information
Beijing Daxing International Airport (IATA: PKX, ICAO: ZBAD) is a large international airport located on the border of Beijing and Langfang, Hebei Province. The airport is Beijing's second international airport, after Beijing Capital International Airport. It has been nicknamed "the starfish". It was completed on June 30, 2019, and began operations on September 26, 2019.
The airport is 46 kilometres (29 mi) south of Tiananmen Square, 26 kilometers (16 mi) west of downtown Langfang, 50 kilometers (31 mi) northeast of Xiong'an New Area, and 65 kilometers (40 mi) south of Beijing Capital International Airport, and serves Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. It is a hub for SkyTeam alliance airlines and some Oneworld members, while most Star Alliance members have remained at Beijing Capital International, as has Hainan Airlines.
