Cruising flight levels for IFR flights should be allocated in accordance with the Semi-circular rules.IFR flights should choose a flight level according to the track (course over ground) they operate on.
Malta FIR/UIR uses default East/West level allocation as depicted in the graphic here and in the tables that can be found here.
Aircraft flying to the East (track 0°-179°) shall use an odd level, aircraft flying to the West (track 180°-359°) shall opt for an even level.
For example, an IFR flight that is operating on a track of 090° could use a cruising level of FL350.
VFR flights operating above 914 m (3 000 ft) are required to fly at such flight level corresponding to the semi-circular rules described above +500 ft.
For example, a VFR aircraft that is flying on a track of 090° could use a cruising altitude of 3500ft.
