Except when operating under Special VFR (SVR), VFR flights shall be conducted so that the aircraft is flown in Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC).
VFR flights shall not be operated at transonic and supersonic speeds and/or above FL195 unless authorised by ATC.
Except when necessary for take-off or landing, a VFR flight shall not be flown:
- over the congested areas of cities, towns or settlements or over an open-air assembly of persons at a height less than 1000 ft above the highest obstacle within a radius of 600 m from the aircraft; and
- elsewhere than as specified above, at a height less than 500 ft above ground or water, or 150 m (500 ft) above the highest obstacle within a radius of 150 m from the aircraft.
Special VFR flights may be authorised to operate within a control zone, subject to an ATC clearance, under the following conditions:
- SVFR flights may only be conducted during daytime
- Horizontal visibility must be greater than 1500 m (800m for helicopters)
- Ceiling must be greater than 80 m (600 ft)
- Maximum speed in order to anticipate conflicts by visual observation is 140 kts IAS.
