Becoming an Air Traffic Controller (ATC) on IVAO (International Virtual Aviation Organization) is an exciting journey that allows you to interact with pilots from around the world, guiding them safely through airspace. If you're passionate about aviation and want to control air traffic, follow these simple steps to get started.
Step 1: Install the IVAO Software
Step 2: Once you’ve signed up, you need to install the necessary software:
IVAO ATC Client for controlling.
Install the Aurora Sotwaresoftware by following the instructions on the website.
Step 3: Observe the others (attention callsign + ranks BUT observe is not a guarantee of clarity)
We recommend that you contact your division's training department or members on the official IVAO Discord server
Step 4: Apply for ATC Training
For assistance, you can request training in your division: to do it, just click HERE
Step 5: Start with a Ground or Tower Controller
New controllers usually begin by controlling on a smaller scale, such as Ground or Tower positions. These roles involve managing aircraft on the ground and in close proximity to the airport.
After completing the basic training, you’ll be eligible to start as a Ground or Tower controller.
Practice by participating in practice sessions with other controllers or pilots.
Improve your skills gradually as you gain experience.
Step 6: Progress to More Advanced Positions
As you gain confidence and experience, you can move up to more advanced roles, like Approach and Center controllers. These positions involve managing aircraft in higher altitudes and across broader airspace regions.
Continue your training and pass any exams required for higher ATC positions.
Work under supervision until you are ready to take on more responsibility.
Step 7: Go Live!
Once you’ve completed the necessary training, you’re ready to control live traffic on IVAO. You can now participate in online sessions, interact with pilots, and control traffic in real-time.

Disclaimer: Live ATC yes why not but there are a big gap between the used phraseology by the real controller and IVAO)
