A flightplan is a form filled before a flight to give information about who you are, from and where you're flying, and how you plan to get there.
It used to be in paper format, but nowadays you have various online platforms that assist you to fill it out.
Even on IVAO, where everything is virtual, it shows to everyone what you plan to do during your flight, that's why you must have one otherwise the controllers and other pilot won't see you.

To Submit FPL, every cell must be filed with as much accuracy as possible. It helps out controllers and other pilots to understand your flight intentions.
