In this topic, some frequently asked questions regarding the Training Department will be covered.
Please read them before you send an e-mail to the Training Department.
Questions related to other departments may be covered in the F.A.Q. section of this forum, or in the forum of the relevant Departments.
Q: I am a new member of the IVAO network, but I have almost no knowledge at all about flight procedures or air traffic control. Where can I find help?
A: The Training Department is here for you at www.ivao.aero/training.
We also provide the IVAO Documentation MediaWiki, where you will find useful information as well as deep knowledge of both real and virtual aviation.
As you are registered in a specific division, you should contact your local Training Department. Their Coordinators are always available at the following addresses XX-tc@ivao.aero and XX-tac@ivao.aero. You may also visit their web site, found at: http://XX.ivao.aero (each time, replace ‘XX’ by the two-letter code of your Division).
What could you ask the Training Department? Easy answer: Training! Indeed, Training Staff Members are either professional or qualified people who are there in order to help you to get more flying or ATC skills.
Q: I would like to progress as pilot or ATC on IVAO and get higher ranks! How can I take exams on IVAO?
A: First of all, check our Exam Policy to learn how IVAO's exam system works. Then, when you are ready to take your exam, visit your IVAO Profile and switch to the tab “Exam”.
This is the link to the training part of your member details, where you can request theoretical and practical exams.
When your theoretical exam is finished and submitted, it will be evaluated automatically. You will have to wait some time as the process of evaluation is automatic, but must be initiated manually. As soon as your exam is evaluated, you will receive an e-mail with the result.
For practical exams, an examiner will receive the request and then will contact you in order to arrange further details (such as time/date and location). Make sure you are familiar with the Briefing Guides provided before requesting any exam!
Q: I applied for an exam quite some time ago and my examiner didn't contact me yet, what can I do?
A: Your examiner normally has 15 days to evaluate your exam or latest contact you and arrange the date and time for your exam. Once this period is likely to be exceeded, you should try to contact the examiner directly. The examiner and e-mail address can be found by visiting the exam entry in your IVAO Profile, then looking up the Staff tab on the examiner's profile. If you fail to contact your examiner, please use our Contact Form or send a mail to training@ivao.aero. Always include your IVAO VID and exam number.
Q: What can I do about a practical exam with the status “Cancelled”?
A: According to our Exam Policy, your practical exams should be done at the latest 1 month after applying for it.
All practical exams that are older than 2 months are automatically cancelled.
In addition, all exams which are scheduled but not attended, for whatever reason, and all exams where the examinee doesn't contact the examiner for a scheduling will also be cancelled by the HQ Training department. This is to avoid too many “failed” exams in the history that are actually “no shows”.
If your exam has been cancelled, send a mail to [TD and TAD], with your VID, to reactivate it.
If there are no other reasons not to reset your exam, we will do it immediately.
Q: I have passed my Altitude/Aurora exams but I did not get the rating
A: Please check that you meet the required online hours for the rating. Generally the system allows you to make the Altitude/Aurora exams earlier than the required hours.
However your rating will be upgraded after you have achieved the online hours required for the rating.
If you already have the online hours, make sure you log in into an ACTIVE ATC position (IVAC) or flying (IVAP) at least 15 minutes. Only thereafter your rating will be upgraded.Usually the rating upgrade is automatically updated every 4 hours.
There is no need to email anyone about this as this process is completely automatic.
Q: I requested a theoretical exam and realized that I cannot do it, and now it has expired. Q: What can I do about a theoretical exam with the status “cancelled” or “timed out”?
Q: My computer crashed, I had a power failure or I lost my internet connection during the theoretical exam.
A: We are confronted more and more often with requests for resetting theoretical exams timed out/cancelled due to technical problems (loss of Internet connection, computer crash, time out…).
The answer to any issues you are facing is unique:
- We remind all members taking a theoretical exam that, after they initiate the exam (45 minutes), they should save their answers (Send button) on a regular basis. Only the last submission is taken into account for exam evaluation. This should avoid the exam being marked 0 in case a problem occurs.
- the system does not allow the resetting of theoretical exams, as in this case the same exam will appear again.
- in order to shorten the time for applying again, members should take point 1 into account, as the correct answered questions have direct influence on the delay, even if a time out happens.
We strictly recommend the following:DO NOT USE web page translator - integrated in any browser!
If you using the add on, and translating the website with the translator add-on, the difference between the IVAO system date and time format (UK format f.i. DD/MM/YYYY ) and the translated page language format ( f.e. Hungarian or other country format YYYY/MM/DD) lead to an error.
After the translating the website, the exam system is recognizing the new date, which is on the new format definitely later than the true and original date and start time of the exam.
The difference leads to a timed out exam, marked automatically 0/100 by the system. In other hand, system does not allow the resetting of theoretical exams, as in this case the same exam will appear again.
Consequently, the Training department will always refuse to reset or delete unfilled or timed out exams.
In order to shorten the time for applying again, members should save their answers on a regular basis so as to avoid the exam being marked 0 if a disconnection or a time out happen.
Q: I have a question regarding the content of my theoretical exam.
A: Are you puzzled about a question in your theoretical exam? Was it marked wrong, even though you are pretty sure you answered right? We will help you.
To get help, send an e-mail to training@ivao.aero, and include the exam's number as displayed in your profile besides your specific question about the exam. Of course we will not just give away the correct answers, but you will get enough explanation and some pointers to find out the correct answer yourself.
Please do not post any exam questions in the forum. Thank you.
Q: Where can I announce my training/exam session?
A: The Training Department approves announcements of training sessions in this forum board.
Naturally, announcements to attract traffic are only valid for ATC training.
The announcement posts will be deleted latest one week after the session took place.
We must use this procedure in order to maintain a certain order in this forum.
