A good quality ATC service must be provided to all pilots who choose to fly in, out and through British and Irish airspace. Therefore, all controllers must be competent to control the position to which they are connecting.
As such, it is compulsory for all IVAO members controlling a British or Irish position to abide by these procedures and those who do not comply will be requested to close the position.
- As per IVAO Regulation 2.2.1 controllers should connect with the intention of controlling for at least 30 minutes. The Division strongly recommending minimum controlling sessions of 60 minutes to allow pilots time to identify you're online, and set up their flight.
- New controllers must have read the Getting Started Guide before proceeding.
- Active controllers should be able to use all functions of Aurora, and have read the manual thoroughly.
- All controllers must populate their ATIS with; Position name (Full name, not ICAO code. e.g. 'Heathrow Director', not EGLL_N_APP), Voice channel (if applicable), Weather / runway information / TA/TL (if applicable), no unnecessary remarks in the remarks section (controllers will be asked to remove unnecessary comments from their ATIS should any be identified).
- The language used for aviation in the UK and Ireland is English and must be used at all times.
- All controllers must use standard CAA or ICAO (as appropriate) phraseology at all times.
- Controllers must read and understand the appropriate position/airport/sector procedures before logging on. If you have any questions you must contact the ATC Operations Department before connecting.
- Controllers must provide a full and correct service to pilots within their airspace. Partial services such as “taxi stand of choice” are not permissible.
- Controllers must have all applicable charts and sector/unit procedures available while on duty.
- Data labels (cleared waypoint, cleared speed, cleared altitude) must be up to date at all times. The cleared waypoint field is only to be used for the appropriate intention code not for the SID, STAR, stand, etc.
In addition to these guidelines, controllers must also abide by the Rules and Regulations of IVAO. Failure to do so will result in punitive measures being taken against the members account.
The United Kingdom and Ireland Division participates in the Guest Controller Approval (GCA) programme.
Controllers who are not members of the XU Division are required to obtain a GCA from the Training Department before attempting to open any British or Irish position.
